‘Away From it All,’ a web series based on Thomas Hardy’s Far from the Madding Crowd is a Transmedia Experience!

The first episode Away From it All will be released on October 20.
Breaking with tradition, Away From it All tears through the mold of a traditional Literary Web Series.

Away From it All is a modern adaptation of Thomas Hardy's classic novel Far from the Madding Crowd, told through private and public vlogs.It follows Bathsheba Everdene, Gabriel Oak and Liddy Smallbury in one of the most memorable years of their lives as they defy expectations and live with the consequences of their actions.

When Gabriel’s veterinary ambitions are left in tatters after a serious mysterious incident involving sheep, he moves to a small village named Weatherbury. There he finds Bathsheba Everdene: a girl he once knew as Ellie, who had rejected his romantic advances. She has re-invented herself moving to a new town and buying a local pub against the wishes of her mother and many of the more conservative residents.

As this young entrepreneur struggles to gain a foothold in the community. She must also mature into an adult which means delving into a whirlwind of self-evaluation, friendships, and romantic entanglements.

The story will be told via YouTube videos, private Facebook videos (available on YouTube), Twitter, Tumblr, Pinterest, emails and even through Gabriel and Bathsheba’s personal mobile phones.
The ability to look into the character’s phones will be a new way for audiences to delve into the world that Hazel Jeffs, the show’s creator, and her team have created as inspired by Thomas Hardy’s masterpiece.

The phones will be available to explore through a website. The Transmedia element of the story began Wednesday September 28, with the first episode airing October 20, 5:00 p.m. GMT.
